Some Planets Like It Hot - Didier Queloz

At the Carl Sagan Institute inauguration, Didier Queloz, University of Cambridge professor of physics, described how, as a graduate student, he found the first confirmed exoplanet – a planet found beyond Earth’s own solar system – around a sun-like star.

Biography: Didier Queloz is physics professor at Cambridge University. He was involved at the origin of the exoplanet revolution in astrophysics. In 1995 he discovered with Michel Mayor the first giant planet outside the solar system. Since then, he has detected more than one hundred new exoplanets. He is leading a comprehensive research program to search and characterize exoplanets in the Universe at Cambridge.
